IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXAM ADMINISTRATION
There are two sections to the IV exam. Both sections will be accessible from the IV Moodle page at the appropriate time. Please make sure that you make a submission for both sections before the deadline.
Note that you have already completed 40% of your IV assessment (10% CPS, 30% Project). The IV exam is thus worth 60% of your final grade (20% MCQ, 40% EPS)

Since both sections are part of an examination, extensions cannot be given for either of them. If you are unable to take part in the examination for a valid reason, you must submit a formal Good Cause Claim, with supporting documentation.
Section 1 (Part A): Multiple Choice Questions Quiz (20%)
This section is the IV Exam MCQ Quiz. It will be a Timed Exam, comprising 24 multiple-choice questions. Answering the questions is expected to take you 60 minutes, and you should aim to complete all the questions within this time.
There is a 30 minute ‘technical buffer’ added onto this hour to mitigate against any technical issues.
My advice is: aim to finish after 60 minutes in case of technical problems, since we will not accept late submissions without Valid Good Cause.
This section will be conducted as a Moodle Quiz, accessible from the IV Moodle page. A Sample Quiz has been set up (based on simple nursery rhymes), so that you know what to expect from the Moodle interface when you start the IV Exam MCQ Quiz – you are advised to give it a try to make sure you are comfortable with the interaction and submission process.
Example Exam MCQs
In the IV Exam MCQ Quiz there will be 24 MCQ questions. Note that these questions are deliberately more difficult than the simple ones used in the LOL Zoom Polls because each question will relate to three different aspects of a particular topic. Three examples are given below:
Q1: Experimental factors
a) include control, independent and dependent variables
b) are all completely defined in advance of the experiment
c) show how independent and dependent variables are related to each other
a) focuses on the values of simple aggregate statistics
b) only applies to data sets containing 11 values
c) encourages the visualisation of data
Q3: Graphs
a) represent lines between circles
b) are represented in abstract form, usually in a matrix or list structure
c) can be bi-directed, with cycles
The School of Computing Science policy for MCQs is one of negative marking. You will get 1 mark for each correct answer, will lose 0.5 mark for each incorrect answer, and will get 0 for any question you do not answer. This ensures that students who simply choose random answers are unlikely to get high marks. The maximum number of marks is 24, the minimum is 0, and your total score will be weighted appropriately to represent 20% of your final grade.
Since this is an exam assessment, you are required to complete this assessment by yourself. You may make use of online sources, reference material, and the IV course materials on Moodle, but you must not discuss your answers with anyone else while the Quiz is open. This includes discussion with other students in the class, tutors, members of staff (and anyone else).

Section 2 Exam Paper Summary (EPS) (40%)
This section is the IV Exam Paper Summary. It will be a Seen Exam.
The Exam Paper Summary (EPS) task is almost identical to the Coursework Paper Summary (CPS) assessment you completed during the semester, except that
(a) a different set of InfoViz proceedings years from which to choose your paper will be specified;
(b) you will have less time to complete the summary, and
(c) there are two short additional questions for you to answer.
The rest of the specification for the EPS is identical to the CPS.
48hours before the scheduled start of the exam, the following information will appear on the IV Moodle page:
• the set of InfoViz conference years to choose your paper from;
• a revised Word template for you to use for your summary, which includes two additional
questions.
You should upload your submission during the period specified for the IV exam, including the technical buffer – that is, there will be 90 minutes for you to complete and submit your MCQ answers and to upload your Exam Paper Summary.
My advice is: aim to submit your EPS document well before the end of the 90 minutes in case of technical problems, since we will not accept late submissions without Valid Good Cause.
Please note that it may be the case that you have another examination scheduled during the 48hrs prior to the scheduled IV examination period. You will have sufficient warning regarding the examination timetable for you to be able to plan your time accordingly.
PLEASE SUBMIT ONE WORD DOCUMENT.
Since this is an exam assessment, you are required to complete this assessment by yourself. You may make use of online sources, reference material, and the IV course materials on Moodle, but you must not discuss your submission with anyone else before the end of the exam period. This includes discussion with other students in the class, tutors, members of staff (and anyone else).
