● The exam is closed book and out of 100 marks with 5 questions. Each question has a number of sub questions.
● To help you, a summary of the key theories will be provided in the question. Please refer to the sample exam for examples. Please note, we expect you to understand the theory and how it can be applied. The summary is there to provide you with a prompt.
● The marks allocated to each question will give you a general guide to how much to write. The more marks the more is expected. However, the key is to ensure you answer the question asked.
● The exam questions are applied. These questions expect you to demonstrate how the theory can be used to identify, understand, improve or resolve a given situation rather than telling us what the theory is.
● So please carefully read the question, determine what is expected of you and then ensure you answer all parts of it. For example:
● If the question is based on a case study, please check that your answer is specific to the question rather than being a generic summary of the topic. It is very difficult to award any marks for generic answers that do not answer the question.
● If a question asks you to explain why, please ensure you answer this as this is where most of the marks are awarded.
● As part of your exam preparation, we recommend you think about:
● Why each concept / theory covered in 5122 is important;
● How the concept / theory can be used to identify, understand, improve or resolve a problem; ● Examples from your IE, work or general observation which can help you prepare for how to
apply the concept/theory in practice.
● There are no trick questions. If you understand the material then you are in a great position to do
Using the sample exam
● The sample exam, revision questions and weekly discussion questions provide great examples of the style of questions to expect in the exam. Just note that the sample exam is much longer than the actual exam to give you lots of opportunity to practice. However, the mark allocation per sub question is representative of what you will find in the exam.

FIT5122 Sample Exam Paper
● Please note, we don’t expect you to complete the sample exam like you would the actual exam, but rather to use it to check you understand what the questions are asking and how you would go about answering it. If you would like an exam experience, you may want to consider pulling out 100 marks worth of questions from the sample exam (choose 6 topics) and attempt over 3 hours and 10 minutes.
● We will be running exam consultations in week 13 to enable you to discuss your sample exam answers with teaching staff. Please note, we won’t be giving you specific answers during this consultation as there are many correct ways of answering Professional Practice questions and we don’t want to confine your thinking. However, we are able to give you examples of how you could answer the questions and also guide you on whether you are on the right track and where you may be going wrong. Please watch out for the forum announcements for the days and times. They will be run via zoom webinar.
Professional Practice is all about demonstrating your ability to apply a theory or concept to a given situation, whether a specific case study, work or your Industry Experience project. Unlike other subjects you may have studied, there can be many correct answers in Professional Practice. The key to succeeding in FIT5122 is not showing us everything you know about a topic but rather demonstrating your ability to evaluate which specific knowledge is relevant to resolving, improving or preventing a specific situation.
Please reach out to the teaching team if you have any questions. All the very best for the exam.
