Part 1: Practical Exercises
Workshop 9: Data Analysis I
Please use this dataset for your following calculations.
1. Please calculate the arithmetic mean, median, and mode for Price, Speed, and Consumption. Looking at the data, which construct would provide the most accurate description of your data, and why? Include a 1-2 sentence explanation for each variable.
2. Please calculate variance and standard deviation for Speed and Price.
3. Draw a distribution graph for Price, and name the distribution the graph is closest to.
4. Please draw a scatterplot for Speed and Consumption. Does it allow you to draw any conclusions? Include a 1-2 sentence explanation.
Part 2: Theory
1. Explain the difference between categorical data and ordinal data. Write no more than 2-3
sentences.
2. What is a normal distribution? Write no more than 2-3 sentences.
3. With regards to data analysis, what is the advantage of using scales over open questions? Write no more than 2-3 sentences.
4. Give an example of a situation where the arithmetic mean would not be an accurate representation of your data. Write no more than 2-3 sentences.
