Getting a job
• Do your homework
– search for keywords on the leading job sites
– Get the skills you are missing
– Add the keywords to your resume, with the proper visibility
• Get the maximum you can get from your master program
– Shape your study plan the best way possible to cover
market needs
– Avoid shortcuts to get the degree: the grade is not the only
element employers are focusing on
– Use your finals to do projects that can become your selling
point during your job search: focus on the domain (either
industry or skill) you are targeting for your search

Differentiate your resume from others
Getting a job
• Strategy involves longer term goals. This is on shaping your skills,
getting the proper combination of education and experience.
This is what you are doing during your whole master program
(and after that). Work with your advisor, do projects in the most
popular areas using your skills. Projects can be finals, special
projects, papers you may write with faculty members, Kaggle-
like challenges
• Tactic involves shorter term goals. You want to apply to job
openings now. Have your resume mapping in an honest way
your skills with the leading keywords in current job postings,
assuming employers use text mining
