Rules: Login information will be shown for every switch once connected via telnet.
Use provided username and password. Do not change login information if you are able to. Do not write erase and Do not save your configuration (copy runningconfig startupconfig). Reload the switch to start with a fresh default configuration before every lab and try to reload the switch once done. Pods are shared and any X/Y in p1XmY must be replaced by corresponding Pod # and Switch #

Task 1: Getting familiar with hardware
1. Login to p10m1 and extract hardware information using cli command “show version”
2. Note Hardware information and OS version
3. Repeat for all other switches and not any differences in hardware and modules. you may need to use cli command “show module”
4. Take inventory of ports using cli command “show interface brief”; note Ethernet ports and FC ports.
5. Note the different port Modes
6. Pick any FC port and show its capabilities using cli command “show interface fc 1/1 capabilities” what is the default FX BuffertoBuffer credit and Rate Mode
7. What is the BuffertoBuffer credit (bbcredit) of an FC port in F mode? use cli command “show interface fcx/y bbcredit”;replace x and y appropriately.
1

8. Show switch wwn using cli command “show wwn switch”.Do you expect this value to be different for vsan 1? show wwn for vsan 1 and compare to switch wwn
9. Show a port wwn information using cli command “show interface fcx/y”; how many buffer credits will be received before sender stops transmitting frames?
10. Each switch will have an FCID assigned to it; list the FCID for pXm2; is this the Principal Domain?
11. Show Fibre Channel Name Services database and list local nodes and remote nodes; cli command “show fcns database”
12. Using p1Xm1 MDS switch list port resources for module 1 and indicate whether ports are shared or dedicated as well as the number of ports per group
2

Task 2: Configure port mode
13. Using port fc1/15 on p1Xm2; configure port to be an F port mode using cli command
“switchport mode F”.Explain why port mode F is used in this case
14. Configure fc port connected to JBOD on p1Xm2 to enable access to Storage. You may need to run cli command “show flogi database”before and after to see a list of Hard Drives. Note: port mode must be set appropriately and then enabled.
15. Using p1Xs1; configure the last 12 ports to be Fibre Channel ports. Note: if permissions do not allowed student accounts to make changes; simply outline the steps required.
16. Feel free to get comfortable with all switches by running the following various cli commands.
a. “showversion”;whatisthekickstartandsystemversion.Whatisthehardware model
b. “show module”How many interfaces are present and of what type.
c. “show inventory”Find out the number of power supplies and fans present
d. “show runningconfig”and inspect the output
