Quantitative and Qualitative Methods Assessment Brief
The assessment tests your ability to use your data analysis skills and knowledge to organise and present data in support of a hypothesis/theory. You will be provided with a quantitative dataset and a set of qualitative materials. You will be required to organise and analyse the information and generate a report on the evidence you have found. You should set your own hypothesis and research questions and carry out appropriate analysis to draw suitable conclusions.
You will have 10 days to complete and submit the assessment. You can use any data analysis tool or software, but are advised to organise and analyse the evidence using SPSS and NVivo before compiling your report. You will be assessed on the formal structure of the report (but not on your written English, although your explanations must be understandable).
The dataset and the articles will be based around a single broad theme. No special knowledge of the subject matter is required.

Assessment Method
The Final Module Assessment is worth 100% of your total mark for this module.
We will assess you on the range of data analysis that you carry out, the effectiveness with which you apply them and the coherence of your conclusions.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment will test your ability to:
· demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a broad and integrated body of statistical tools;
· critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative and quantitative data sources;
· apply appropriate techniques and tools to analyse qualitative and quantitative data;
· produce, interpret and evaluate relevant mathematical expressions, graphs, statistics and
tabular information;
· draw reliable inferences from qualitative and qualitative data; and
· apply mathematical and statistical techniques to a variety of practical problems and justify
conclusions reached
· write a well structured, effectively written report, with conclusions drawn from analysis of
the data provided.
Assessment Submission
• You will have to upload a Word/pdf document and your data analysis files (SPSS, Excel, NVivo, R..), saved with your candidate number and name to Moodle. Deadline will be 23:59 (Midnight – GMT) on Friday, 11th March 2022.
Specific operations
· You can use your preferred software for the quantitative analysis (SPSS,Excel,R etc) and the qualitative analysis (NVivo, ATLAS, Annotations, etc).
· There are no specified SPPS/ Excel/ R or NVivo/ATLAS/Annotations functions that you must use, however you should apply a variety of analysis tools. You will get extra credit for harnessing more complex analysis or presentational functions.
· You will only gain credit for evidence taken from the data supplied. Additional sources must not be accessed.
· No report should be the same. Any similarity with other students’ work will be treated as academic impropriety.
