Let’s start with a question …
2
• Can you think of any link between the new Coronavirus and
Cybersecurity?
• Let’s brainstorm …

Let’s follow up with another question …
3
• Who is the father of Modern Computing?
• Why did he think of creating the first computer?

Let’s have a look together ..
Go to https://moodle.deakincollege.edu.au/course/view.php?id=2667
• The dynamic nature of this unit requires that:
• All students are expected to REGULARY check
the Unit Site including:
• Weekly content
• Discussions

The Discussion Forum
8
• A very critical and useful tool for this unit:
• Please use it for Lecture related questions and refer to it before sending emails.
• There are allocated topics for each Week’s task. You can use that to discuss with other
students and seek help from teaching team.
• Please use the appropriate section for your question,
• Give time to the teaching staff to reply to your question (48 hours is the rule, but we try
our best to reply ASAP),
• Don’t expect a solution from the teaching staff ☺ but hints, tips, etc.
Note:
• You are not allowed to share solution to Weekly tasks on the forum,
• Avoid sharing copyrighted material,
• Be respectful and friendly.

FAQ – Lectures
11
• Start from Week 1…
• Lectures:
• Online and/or On campus (based on the announcement from management).
• 2 hours
• Lectures mostly cover the foundations and theories you will need to understand the Weekly tasks, answer
theory-based questions from Weekly tasks, and Pass the final exam.
• We might use portion of the practical session to cover lecture content (in case if we can not finish lecture
content in the first 2 hours).
• Attendance is IMPORTANT.

Textbook/References
13
• This unit is now aiming to be more hands-on with the goal of better preparing you for other
cybersecurity units, and your career. We have worked with distinguished academics, successful alumni,
and industry experts ..
• None of the Ivy league universities have a single reference for a Cybersecurity unit – Why?
• There is no single reference for Cybersecurity in industry either – that’s why you have all the
different certifications ..
• Hence, we will be using a number of different references and resources in this unit. Accordingly,
• The prescribed textbook is only one of the books you can refer to when you want to better
understand the concepts covered,
• We will not follow the prescribed textbook flow,
• You are very much encouraged to use the recommended textbooks (see next slide).

Assessment
15
• Assessment Task 1 (80%)
• Weekly OnTrack tasks.
• Each week there are Pass-level tasks.
• And there may be Credit, Distinction, and High-Distinction-level tasks.
• You will need to, at least, complete all the Pass-level tasks (hurdle).
• More about OnTrack in further slides.
• Assessment Task 2 (20%)
• Final Exam, closed-book, supervised, and during the university examination
period. (NOTE: due to COVID circumstances, it might be an online exam.)
• Whatever your grade in Assessment Task 1, you will need at least 50% of the
Final Exam to pass this unit (hurdle).
• The final exam includes questions from the theoretical concepts studied, and
some questions related to Pass and Credit-level weekly tasks of OnTrack.

Final Exam (Theoretical Concepts)
16
Remember this unit has 80% OnTrack tasks and a 20% hurdle final exam. For the final exam,
• Your main reference point on what to study are the lecture slides,
• Most (~90%) of the theoretical questions are covered in the lecture slides,
• You have the Discussions section to ask Lecture related questions.
FAQ: I do not understand what you have in the lecture slides, your lecture is also not clear, and I need somewhere to
go and read from:
• Each lecture includes a suggested reading at the end,
• This is the specific recommended reference for that topic,
• References are (mostly) e-available through the library.

OnTrack: https://ontrack.deakin.edu.au
• Week 1 includes a Grade agreement document.
• Depending on the grade that you target, a set of tasks will be available that you will need to complete.

OnTrack and Weekly Tasks Policy – SIT182

Task X.Y
Complete
Re-do
Fail
• You can re-submit by the task `End Date’
• Only granted if you submit by the task `Due date’
• You can no longer achieve the grade that includes
that task as a requirement.
Task X.Y
`Due Date’
`End Date’
Specified for each task. Typically, 2 weeks from
the availability of the task.
Specified for each task. Typically, 3 weeks from
the availability of the task.
Tutor’s feedback
• Extension request policy:
• Deakin College’s late submission policy applies to `Due Date’ of weekly tasks:
20Date.pdf
• For OnTrack tasks, student must submit the extension request via OnTrack. In addition, student will need to
submit the “request for assessment extension form” via email to the unit coordinator.
• `End Date’ is fixed:
• Why?
• Deakin late submission policy allows up to 5 days, `End Date’ is already 7 days.
• Tasks submitted after `End date’ of a task are no longer accepted and you `Fail’ that task.

20
• If you are granted extension,
• Your new `Due Date’ for that task is your `End Date’,
• Your task will not be `Re-do’ eligible. This means that you either Pass or Fail that task after
submission.
Extension request process:
• Request through OnTrack and provide supporting documentation(see previous slide)
through Email to your unit coordinator,
• Submission of a request does not mean APPROVAL. You will need to wait for email from
your unit coordinator for the decision regarding your extension request,
• Please carefully read information below:

OnTrack and Weekly Tasks Policy – SIT182
21
• In Week 12, you submit a Learning Portfolio reporting on all tasks submitted and reflect how each task
you have completed has prepared you against the SIT182 ULOs. Your arguments here will be used to
decide whether you will be High or Low in the grade you have targeted for.
• Obvious fact: if you submit later than the `Due Date’ up to 5 days in one or more instances, then this
obviously makes you ineligible for high-level mark in your target grade.
Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B
OnTrack and Weekly Tasks Policy – SIT182
22
• Can I change my target grade?
• Until 19th of July 2021 (no exceptions).
• What if I fail to deliver as per my target grade?
• Let’s say you have aimed for Distinction-level and fail to `Complete’ any Distinction-level tasks
→ You will be no longer able to achieve a Distinction-level grade.
• Note about Tasks difficulty levels –
• Pass-level is the minimum skill we expect from a student completing this unit to have.
• Credit-level tasks require more effort.
• Distinction-level tasks require working on a challenging problem ☺
• High Distinction-level tasks require working on a extra challenging problem ☺

23
• Plagiarism:
• Lecturer will be asking questions about tasks on OnTrack. Students must provide answer to
these questions. If no response, or makes no-sense, that task is failed. Alternatively, lecturer
might ask student to demonstrate the task.
• Submitted documents will be scanned using Turnitin.
