• Must have an approved degree
• Be at least 23 years or age
• Be of good character and reputation
• Have at least 3 years full time practical experience valuing land
• Attained reasonable standard of professional competence

• Established by the Valuers Act 1948 • Has dual roles
– The statutory and separate legal entity role of the NZIV Council under the Act
– The role of the Valuers Council within the Property Institute
• Valuers Registration Board
• Established in accordance with Valuers Act 1948
• Function:
– To protect the public
• Controls entry criteria to the profession • Has disciplinary powers
• Issues practising certificates
