IEE 561 2021 Spring Project Introduction:
Facility location is a major decision for the setup of a production system or some other systems, and this topic has not be discussed in the class. The basic idea of facility location is simple. An introduction of the facility location problem can be referred to Wikipedia.
Project scope:
Please use AMPL to build the problem presented in the reference paper, and perform sensitivity analyses and possible extensions to the model. While your model need to be built in AMPL, your sensitivity analysis can be complete in AMPL or other tools that can use your model built in AMPL.

Requirements:
1. Each team can only have one submission. Each extra submission by an second teammate will make the group lose 5 points (The total of the project is 100). The person who submit the project can have multiple attempts. However, only the last submission will be graded.
2. A single report file (only in pdf) is required in the submission, please include a cover page with all names of the your team members. A summary page that highlights the experiments and findlings in the beginning. Each report should include at least a sensitivity analysis part and one part that discusses the possible extensions to the model. In the sensitivity analysis part, please at least include a discussion of the impact of the number of facilities on economic cost and CO2 emissions.
3. Each team need to provide all your code and data files in the submission. These files need to be compressed to a zip file. A file called README.txt that describes the meaning of each file needed to be included in the zip file as well. That is each team will be submitting two files, one report (pdf) and a zip file containing all your experiment files as well as a README.txt file.
4. You can work on your own, but it is suggested that you work in a team up to 4 members. However, if you decide to work on your own, there will be no conditional points or benefits. All submissions are treated equally. You may find

your team members in the People section on the course webpage. A link for group
sign-up will be provided in a separate announcement.
5. The report file need to be within a length of 20 pages. Do not attach your code in
the report. For each experiment conducted, please indicate in the related files and
locations.
6. No late submission is allowed.
Information & Notice:
AMPL is a domain specific programming language used for mathematical programming. An academic version is available for download on the course webpage. An example based on assembly line balancing problem (section 2.2 of the textbook) is provided for your reference. You may find the AMPL book useful.
AMPL can be used on its own. You may also use it in Excel or Python. (Some configuration steps are need if used with Excel or Python).
Most of the data are provided in the paper, however, to complete the numerical experiments, you need to generate some data on your own. It is fine to make extra assumptions and generate the data on your own.
