Loading and Transforming Data in Power BI
Business Scenario
You are a data analyst at the ABC company. You have been told by the business manager that the product VTT will be discontinued due to poor sales performance. The business manager is interested in understanding current sales performance of their products across different regions and any interesting insights from the sales data that may help with their marketing strategy (e.g., expanding market globally).
Task 1: Data Cleaning and Transformation
Load the financial dataset into Power BI Desktop. Do you notice any issue with the data? What transformations would you do? Any new measures can be calculated?

Changing manufacturing cost to a decimal number has shown errors. How would you deal with these errors?

Task 2: Building the Foundation for A Report – DAX
• Create a measure for total units sold.
• Create a date table.
• Create a relationship between the date table and financial table.
Load and Save Data Into Power BI Report
• You will now load your transformed data into your report, ready to be analysed and visualized. Check that the dataset has now populated the Fields pane, Data view and Model view.
• Save your Power BI report as a .pbix file. We will be using this file for next week’s tutorial.
Optional: Loading Additional Data
To get a better understanding of the countries and markets the ABC company is operating in, you have found some population data on Wikipedia that could be useful for your analysis.
Using the data from:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_populat ion create a new column in your data with the population for the countries ABC Company operates in.
